When Andrey Ponochevny and I discussed the possibility of him and his wife Elena Zyl playing a duo piano recital at Steinway Hall Dallas earlier this year in February, we had no idea the Hall would be filled with 100 enthusiastic music lovers from the Metroplex of Dallas, Fort Worth and Plano.

An Afternoon with Tchaikovsky, Mozart and Ravel at the Dallas Symphony
Jaap was back! Jaap van Zweden is the conductor of Dallas Symphony Orchestra. I hadn't seen him at the Symphony for months and had missed him. He was back and in his groove... I enjoyed watching him conduct Ravel's Ma Mere I'Oye, "Mother Goose" (complete ballet). His cue was powerful and impeccable, his stare, captivating. The audience felt his mental energy transferred into his dance of the baton and his body language.

Lang Lang and His Diet
I read a blog about Lang Lang playing in Chongqing, China today. He is one of the lucky artists for whom Steinway & Sons has decided to recongnize by creating his own brand of Steinway piano, the "langlang." First time in more than 150 years for Steinway to do so.

2. You must focus when you practice. Make sure the environment is free from distractions and noise.
3. Mix practicing sections and the whole piece. First practice in sections until you can do it without mistakes, move on to the next section, and so forth, and eventually the entire piece.

Dedication of the Dobson Organ To Highland Park United Methodist Church
This past weekend I had the distinct pleasure of attending the concerto concert dedicating the new 5.5 million dollar organ at Highland Park United Methodist Church. To say that is was thrilling would be an understatement! This fine instrument has power and richness, so much so that at times we could physically feel the vibrations-and the chill bumps! With never a thin, cutting sound, but always a rich, versatile sound at any dynamic, this organ delighted a standing-room-only crowd at 6 p.m. last Sunday night, January 31st.
