First Steinway Grand Piano Delivered as SAGU Strives to Become All-Steinway
Written by Jacinda Timmerman, Staff Writer (SAGU)
SAGU’s first Steinway grand piano was delivered on Friday, November 20. The SAGU Music Department continues towards joining the elite group of All-Steinway Schools and providing students with the best musical instruments available.
According to Linda Robins, Music Department Chair, “The students are rapidly becoming Steinway fans! It is so exciting to watch their response as they not only play the instrument, but even as they listen to the instrument. There is an automatic ‘oh my, listen to how the piano sings’ response. The practice room schedules are full, and the students are definitely increasing in their piano skills with the Steinways. The performance level is rising!”
"Having Steinways in our practice rooms at school has been absolutely amazing,” commented student Hannah Borden. “Now when I practice, I can make each note come to life in a way that can only happen on a Steinway. Practicing is the highlight of my day! I am so thankful for God providing us with these Steinways. Because of them, I am able to move on to the next level as a pianist, and ultimately as a minister in music.”
The SAGU Music Department is in the process of raising funds for twenty-five Steinway pianos and thus achieve its goal of becoming an All-Steinway School. So far, with the help of donors, SAGU has purchased four Roland digital pianos for classrooms, four Boston upright pianos for practice rooms, three Steinway studio pianos for practice rooms, two Steinway vertical grand pianos for faculty offices, and a 6’2” grand piano for the Rehearsal Hall.
SAGU is approximately $300,000 short of reaching All-Steinway status. This remaining figure represents two Steinway studio pianos for practice rooms, two 5’10” Steinway grand pianos for faculty offices, four Steinway studio pianos for faculty offices and a 9’ Steinway concert grand piano for the FLC Chapel.
