The music department at Lone Star College-Montgomery has joined the elite ranks of becoming an “All-Steinway School” after being accredited earlier this fall by piano company Steinway & Sons.
Shared by only five other colleges and universities in Texas and only 150 worldwide, this designation showcases the college’s superior music program, as only pianos designed by Steinway & Sons are used at the college to support band, choir, and orchestra students.
"The All-Steinway School designation underlines LSC-Montgomery’s commitment to excellence in all areas of college life,” said Dr. Austin A. Lane, president of LSC-Montgomery. “It reflects the high level of musicianship that our music faculty bring to this campus."
LSC-Montgomery’s newest grand Steinway piano is housed in the Recital Hall and was dedicated in October of 2011. Several other Steinway grands, uprights, and Steinway-designed Boston uprights are used in classrooms, practice rooms, and faculty offices.
“I’m thrilled by this designation, an honor that’s the imprimatur of a high quality music program.” said Earl Holt, chair of the music department at LSC-Montgomery. “The Steinway instruments provide world-class support for our band, choir, and orchestra students, as well as for classroom instruction and applied piano lessons.
According to Steinway’s website, Steinway has a long history of uncompromised standards in sound, touch, and elegance and is the preferred piano of countless musicians throughout the world. The roster of All-Steinway Schools includes Yale School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, George Mason University, and Carnegie-Mellon University School of Music.
LSC-Montgomery’s music program offers an intensive field of study in theory, ear training, music history, keyboard skills, and private performance lessons. Led by noted, award-winning faculty, students in the choirs, bands, and string ensemble bring a full season of concerts and recitals in a broad range of styles to the surrounding community.
