Next month, all eyes will be on Dallas as it unveils its world-class performing arts center, but all ears will be on the magnificent sounds of Steinway Concert Grand Pianos.
The AT&T Performing Arts Center (A&T PAC) in the Dallas Arts District marks its grand opening with a weeklong celebration beginning October 12, featuring a variety of indoor and outdoor performances, concerts and architecture forums that are free and open to the public.
Two Steinway pianos will be part of this new multi-venue arts and entertainment center for music, opera, theatre, dance and more.
Steinway Hall – Dallas/Fort Worth/Plano, Steinway & Sons’ exclusive dealer in North Texas, will deliver a Model D Concert Grand to the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House on Friday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. The Steinway will be placed in a special, climate-controlled piano storage room where it will await its first performance on stage. Last week, a Steinway Model B Small Concert Grand was delivered to AT&T PAC’s Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre.
“The arrival of the second Steinway is a significant step in the preparations leading to the center’s long-anticipated opening,” Danny Saliba, Steinway Hall – Dallas’ President, said. “For more than 150 years, a Steinway piano has graced such prestigious stages as Carnegie Hall. We are pleased to be part of the AT&T Performing Arts Center.”
The Winspear Opera House, designed by Foster + Partners under Pritzker Architecture Prize-winning architect Norman Foster, will seat 2,200 in its Margaret McDermott Performance Hall. The design is a 21st century interpretation of the classic horseshoe configuration and will be engineered with flexible acoustics, and stage and orchestra pit arrangements for performances of opera, musical theatre, ballet and other dance forms.
Designed by Joshua Prince-Ramus of REX and Rem Koolhaas of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), the Wyly Theatre will be one of the world’s most innovative theatre facilities. The 12-level building will feature an unprecedented “stacked” design—a vertically organized structure that completely rethinks the traditional arrangement of a theatre’s parts.
