About the Artist

Perren-Luc Thiessen

Perren-Luc Thiessen is a 16-year old pianist from Texas and is a student of Tamas Ungar.  He began his studies at the age of 7 with Mary Humm. He made his Orchestra Debut at 12 in Italy and has also performed concertos with the Evgeny Svetlanov Orchestra (in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Hall), Irktusk Symphony Orchestra in Sibera, Fort Worth Symphony, Torun Symphony in Poland, the MostArts Festival Orchestra in New York, and the Round Rock Symphony in Texas. Conductors with whom he has performed include Alexander Sladkovsky, Lio Kuokman, Alpinsch Ilmar, and Przemyslaw Fiugajski among others.  In 2018 he was the only American chosen as one of 15 Finalists to compete in the International Grand Piano Competition in Moscow, and was awarded the prize of Diplomat. Other International Prizes include First Prize and Award for Best Performance of a Romantic Work at the 2017 Young Pianist of the North International Piano Competition, First Prize in the Debut International Piano Competition with his 2017 Debut Recital in Carnegie (Weill) Hall and the Ehrbar Saal in Vienna, and Second Prize, Most Promising Young Artist, and Best Chopin Performance in the Tkaczewski International Competition in Poland.  He has won numerous First Prizes in Texas, including First Prize at 2019 Weatherford International Piano Competition, First Prize in the Denton Bach Society Competition for Young Musicians, First Prizes at the State TMTA Solo Competition, Dallas Solo and Dallas Symphonic Competitions, and First Prizes in Concerto Competitions sponsored by Plano and Lewisville Lake Symphonies and Fort Worth Civic Orchestra. He was a finalist in the 2018 International Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Enschede, the Netherlands, and won Third Prize in the 2018 MostArts Festival Competition in New York. He has participated in the elite Young Artist Program in Piano Texas, Todi International Music Masters and Semper Music Festivals in Italy, Balasz Szokolay Piano Festival in Hungary, the Paderewski Piano Academy in Poland, and Texas State International Piano Festival.  Among the many artists he has worked with are Berndt Goetzke, Balazs Szokolay, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Vladimir Feltsman, and Yoheved Kaplinsky.
