About the Artists 

Russian-born cello virtuoso Yuri Anshelevich was born into a musical family and made his recital debut at the age of 9. Five years later, he had already earned a place to study at the famed Moscow State Conservatory, graduating with highest honors in 1960. He won First Prize in the Cello Division of the All-Russian Competition, which led to studies with Mstislav Rostropovich, one of the greatest cellists of the 20th century. Mr. Anshelevich was the soloist and co-principal cellist for the Moscow State Conservatory Orchestra for 12 seasons. After emigrating to the USA, his first audition was for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He earned the position and served as Associate Principal Cello with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra from 1977 to 2015. Mr. Anshelevich has served on the faculty of Southern Methodist University and the University of Dallas. Active as both a soloist and chamber musician, Mr.Anshelevich has won wide critical acclaim for his concert and recital performances.

Deborah Austin-Totter is a freelance pianist for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO) and is an accompanist, and coach for the DSO’s nationally recognized “Young Strings” program.  She is staff accompanist for the DSO sponsored “Lynn Harrell” competition. She performed for the DSO Nasher chamber music series and has served as accompanist for several national and Texas state competitions.  Deborah also teaches adult piano students in the Dallas area.

Deborah has worked with the students of Jascha Heifetz, Ivan Galamian, Jan Mark Sloman, Itzhak Perlman, Midori, and Nathanial Rosen.  She has accompanied master classes for Midori, Pinchas Zukerman, Shlomo Mintz, Arnold Steinhardt, Jaime Laredo, Elmar Oliveira, Ani Kavafian, Rachel Barton, Stephanie Chase, Fredell Lack, Alisa Weilerstein, and others.

Deborah performs regularly with Dallas/Fort Worth professionals and students of all instruments, specializing in violin repertoire.  She has performed in many U.S. cities, as well as Canada. Deborah was the soloist in the North American premier of Robert X. Rodriguez’s Piano Concerto #2, and has recorded on the CoDa and DBH labels. Deborah completed her Bachelor of Music degree, magna cum laude, and her Master of Music degree in piano performance at SMU.  She began her study of the piano at age 3, and by nine, she added cello.

At SMU, Deborah continued her study of cello as well as extensive work in piano pedagogy, chamber music, accompanying, and orchestral playing.  She received the Paul Vellucci Award for outstanding senior pianist and the Sigma Alpha Iota Award for outstanding ensemble player.
